misplaced mama :: she is my homeopathy. :: January :: 2011
It’s just her and I. We cuddle in bed, stuck by sweat and old soft cotton. Her body is tired from the stress of her usual pre-bedtime tantrum. Tonight’s involved a kid’s chair being thrown across the craft table. It’s like she has a one last monsoon of energy that needs dissipation before she can finally settle down into sleep. I sooth her with a hand against her forehead, humming a lullaby that I hear from my grandmothers, a rocking chair creaking somewhere from behind and above.
Mama, take away all the bad dreams.
I cup my hand over her head and imagine what could be in her mind that needs a vacuum into my palm.
Tell me when I have them all.
She scrunches her face and breathes deeply. Minutes pass. And then even more.
My hand cramps. My eyelids are weighed down with the need to end the day. I feel a little drop drip down the corner of my mouth. And then finally.
Okay. You have them all.
My hand holds them with care, tosses them towards the bedroom window, out against the half moon-lit sky, a rare night of stars uncovered by layers of marine. There you go bad dreams, out ! To the Universe! Get recycled into something beautiful.
Can something scary turn into something beautiful, mama?
Mama?
Are you really still awake?
She tosses and turns, trying to find a spot against me and like a backpack she attaches her arms and legs around me.
Sometimes, sometimes…..sometimes……I just get so angry. I get so mad it’s…..it’s…..it’s……..{though vast, her seven year old vocabulary still limits expressions of the deepest seat of emotion. so does mine.} Sometimes I say to myself, Mia, Mia, don’t throw that chair across the room but I don’t listen. and I do it. and I don’t want to. but i do it anyway because I am so mad, Mama.
I flip over so we are face to face, nose to nose. I kiss her forehead. She smells like worms and green apple jellybeans.
I know, baby. You feel things deeply. You’re a passionate person. People like us have a fire inside sometimes.
A real fire?
It feels real. I have it, too.
Sometimes you yell at the top of your lungs.
Yeah, I do. We are a lot a like, Mia.
That’s why you are my mama.
Keeping it simple. Homeopathy is when matter is brought to energy by dilution and succussion. An individual’s discomfort or dis-ease is then connected with the quantum energy of a medicine which somehow reflects or resembles the energy of the person and the dis-ease.
Homeo means Similar. Pathy: disease. Like dis-ease meets like cure in the most primal, vibrating form.
What happens when the two meet up (the dis-ease and it’s homeopathic counterpart) is dissipation. Not cure, not distraction, not heroic destruction, but a subtle and sometimes not so subtle kind of transformation into a state of Nothingness. (this is not to say that the journey of homeopathy doesn’t come with it’s own interesting bundle of quantum “side effects”or as I like to see it: a process.)
I am toying with the idea that people can be homeopathy for people, when intent and consciousness are ingredients. At least this exploration is easing my internal toss and turn of the question: have I passed this angst on to my daughter? My father passed it on to me? Someone to him? Why? And where and how does it end?
I’m not gonna pretend.
I have anger issues.
I’m not scared. Or nervous or anxious. I’m not oppressed or molested or timid. I’m not uninspired or unmotivated. I’m certainly not passive aggressive. Not a pathological liar. Not an addict.
I got The Anger.
And my dis-ease with anger is not the Anger itself. Anger is just an expression of what all is: Love. It’s not something that needs to be banished, but something that needs to live harmoniously within, a paying tenant to the temple, a productive and creative force. In my case, when I am out of balance my anger taunts love, challenges love to a Battle. When Love isn’t looking or has it’s guard down as love does because Love doesn’t see the need to defend, Anger jumps out from that skanky dark alley and attacks Love, stabs it in the gut with a serrated edged knife. Love bleeds.
Anger is a living entity fed by my personal neglect. I imagine it starting out as Pure Force, an original energy spiral at my base where it has always existed, born to live and grow and thrive. It offers to be alchemical. It longs to be beauty as fine as the stars and the moon; as surprising as street art in London; as mysterious as the voice of Nina Simone; as warm as Dalai Llama’s laughter; as seductive as a story written in red ink on tree bark. It needs air and compost. Water. Time. Focus. With neglect the Force gets restless, hot, impatient, scattered. Bored. Anger gets Angry. Then is burns. And burns. It burns past creation and introduces itself as a raging forest fire. No tree is left standing.
I have yet to master the Management of Creative Energy. I’m young on this path, to put it nicely.
My daughter comes to my life with a particle of similar. Of course our children all resemble us, the good, the bad and the unspeakable. In this particular relationship it’s with wide open eyes I can see the sameness, the tube of colloidal silver that streams from my center to hers. Since the first reluctant breath she took I heard it in her yelp and saw it in her eyes. It was like looking in the mirror. With me my words and energy get thrown like daggers and with her, chairs get hurled across the room. This isn’t by chance. This is the medicine way
I will be damned if I see it as a curse that she holds my boiling waters. I will be damned if I wallow in the wounds of her future, the one which doesn’t even exist. I’ll be damned if I wonder and worry and fret about the flickering flames I see in her eyes and feel against her heart. Fuck that. I’m gonna flip it. Totally flip that sob story.
We are each other’s similar. I am her remedy and she is mine. Brought by cosmic stream, attracted to through the magnetic force of likes. And this cycle, me as mother, her as daughter, we’re gonna just meet up and dissipate each other’s attack mode until it’s nothing but a beautiful piece of something. We all are each other’s homeopathy. Somehow.
At night I have taken the practice of holding her. I succuss us through my mind, imagining the waves tossing us up and down, up and down, up and down and when we fall upon the soft sand we are potentized. Inside the atom to the belly of the quark is the fire and karma from so long ago are just like that, it breaks down into nothingness, then together, her nothing and my nothing meet up Eye to Eye. My prayer is Transformation to the most holy and grand style of Creation.
The Creation is always Love. Healed in all it’s forms of expressions.
I wept pretty heartedly when I read this post that was sent to me by one of my beloved patients. I rarely find resonant folks who actually embrace their own rage function, let alone their children's. I love the way the author illustrates her daughter, Mia's uncontrollable impulse, as a resonant, homeopathic dose of her own fiery nature when she says, "It feels real. I have it too ... That's why you are my mama." And this is why I am my children's mama. Most folks don't realize that their critical, blame throwing, negative looping is just their own unresolved parent's voices in their heads, whittling away at the spirit of their own children. A good solid, healthy expression of rage in a safe environment is the difference between knowing the orgasm function (grand mal seizure) versus masturation (clitoral/penile sneeze). God bless Mia and her etherically imbued Mama!
Dana Ullman: Luc Montagnier, Nobel Prize Winner, Takes Homeopathy Seriously
Dr. Luc Montagnier, the French virologist who won the Nobel Prize in 2008 for discovering the AIDS virus, has surprised the scientific community with his strong support for homeopathic medicine.
In a remarkable interview published in Science magazine of December 24, 2010, (1) Professor Luc Montagnier, has expressed support for the often maligned and misunderstood medical specialty of homeopathic medicine. Although homeopathy has persisted for 200+ years throughout the world and has been the leading alternative treatment method used by physicians in Europe, (2) most conventional physicians and scientists have expressed skepticism about its efficacy due to the extremely small doses of medicines used.
Most clinical research conducted on homeopathic medicines that has been published in peer-review journals have shown positive clinical results,(3, 4) especially in the treatment of respiratory allergies (5, 6), influenza, (7) fibromyalgia, (8, 9) rheumatoid arthritis, (10) childhood diarrhea, (11) post-surgical abdominal surgery recovery, (12) attention deficit disorder, (13) and reduction in the side effects of conventional cancer treatments. (14) In addition to clinical trials, several hundred basic science studies have confirmed the biological activity of homeopathic medicines. One type of basic science trials, called in vitro studies, found 67 experiments (1/3 of them replications) and nearly 3/4 of all replications were positive. (15, 16)
In addition to the wide variety of basic science evidence and clinical research, further evidence for homeopathy resides in the fact that they gained widespread popularity in the U.S. and Europe during the 19th century due to the impressive results people experienced in the treatment of epidemics that raged during that time, including cholera, typhoid, yellow fever, scarlet fever, and influenza.
Montagnier, who is also founder and president of the World Foundation for AIDS Research and Prevention, asserted, "I can't say that homeopathy is right in everything. What I can say now is that the high dilutions (used in homeopathy) are right. High dilutions of something are not nothing. They are water structures which mimic the original molecules."
Here, Montagnier is making reference to his experimental research that confirms one of the controversial features of homeopathic medicine that uses doses of substances that undergo sequential dilution with vigorous shaking in-between each dilution. Although it is common for modern-day scientists to assume that none of the original molecules remain in solution, Montagnier's research (and other of many of his colleagues) has verified that electromagnetic signals of the original medicine remains in the water and has dramatic biological effects.
Montagnier has just taken a new position at Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China (this university is often referred to as "China's MIT"), where he will work in a new institute bearing his name. This work focuses on a new scientific movement at the crossroads of physics, biology, and medicine: the phenomenon of electromagnetic waves produced by DNA in water. He and his team will study both the theoretical basis and the possible applications in medicine.
Montagnier's new research is investigating the electromagnetic waves that he says emanate from the highly diluted DNA of various pathogens. Montagnier asserts, "What we have found is that DNA produces structural changes in water, which persist at very high dilutions, and which lead to resonant electromagnetic signals that we can measure. Not all DNA produces signals that we can detect with our device. The high-intensity signals come from bacterial and viral DNA."
Montagnier affirms that these new observations will lead to novel treatments for many common chronic diseases, including but not limited to autism, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Montagnier first wrote about his findings in 2009, (17) and then, in mid-2010, he spoke at a prestigious meeting of fellow Nobelists where he expressed interest in homeopathy and the implications of this system of medicine. (18)
French retirement laws do not allow Montagnier, who is 78 years of age, to work at a public institute, thereby limiting access to research funding. Montagnier acknowledges that getting research funds from Big Pharma and certain other conventional research funding agencies is unlikely due to the atmosphere of antagonism to homeopathy and natural treatment options.
Support from Another Nobel Prize winner
Montagnier's new research evokes memories one of the most sensational stories in French science, often referred to as the 'Benveniste affair.' A highly respected immunologist Dr. Jacques Benveniste., who died in 2004, conducted a study which was replicated in three other university laboratories and that was published in Nature (19). Benveniste and other researchers used extremely diluted doses of substances that created an effect on a type of white blood cell called basophils.
Although Benveniste's work was supposedly debunked, (20) Montagnier considers Benveniste a "modern Galileo" who was far ahead of his day and time and who was attacked for investigating a medical and scientific subject that orthodoxy had mistakenly overlooked and even demonized.
In addition to Benveniste and Montagnier is the weighty opinion of Brian Josephson, Ph.D., who, like Montagnier, is a Nobel Prize-winning scientist.
Responding to an article on homeopathy in New Scientist, Josephson wrote:
Regarding your comments on claims made for homeopathy: criticisms centered around the vanishingly small number of solute molecules present in a solution after it has been repeatedly diluted are beside the point, since advocates of homeopathic remedies attribute their effects not to molecules present in the water, but to modifications of the water's structure.
Simple-minded analysis may suggest that water, being a fluid, cannot have a structure of the kind that such a picture would demand. But cases such as that of liquid crystals, which while flowing like an ordinary fluid can maintain an ordered structure over macroscopic distances, show the limitations of such ways of thinking. There have not, to the best of my knowledge, been any refutations of homeopathy that remain valid after this particular point is taken into account.
A related topic is the phenomenon, claimed by Jacques Benveniste's colleague Yolène Thomas and by others to be well established experimentally, known as "memory of water." If valid, this would be of greater significance than homeopathy itself, and it attests to the limited vision of the modern scientific community that, far from hastening to test such claims, the only response has been to dismiss them out of hand. (21)Following his comments Josephson, who is an emeritus professor of Cambridge University in England, was asked by New Scientist editors how he became an advocate of unconventional ideas. He responded:
I went to a conference where the French immunologist Jacques Benveniste was talking for the first time about his discovery that water has a 'memory' of compounds that were once dissolved in it -- which might explain how homeopathy works. His findings provoked irrationally strong reactions from scientists, and I was struck by how badly he was treated. (22)Josephson went on to describe how many scientists today suffer from "pathological disbelief;" that is, they maintain an unscientific attitude that is embodied by the statement "even if it were true I wouldn't believe it."
Even more recently, Josephson wryly responded to the chronic ignorance of homeopathy by its skeptics saying, "The idea that water can have a memory can be readily refuted by any one of a number of easily understood, invalid arguments."
In the new interview in Science, Montagnier also expressed real concern about the unscientific atmosphere that presently exists on certain unconventional subjects such as homeopathy, "I am told that some people have reproduced Benveniste's results, but they are afraid to publish it because of the intellectual terror from people who don't understand it."
Montagnier concluded the interview when asked if he is concerned that he is drifting into pseudoscience, he replied adamantly: "No, because it's not pseudoscience. It's not quackery. These are real phenomena which deserve further study."
The Misinformation That Skeptics Spread
It is remarkable enough that many skeptics of homeopathy actually say that there is "no research" that has shows that homeopathic medicines work. Such statements are clearly false, and yet, such assertions are common on the Internet and even in some peer-review articles. Just a little bit of searching can uncover many high quality studies that have been published in highly respected medical and scientific journals, including the Lancet, BMJ, Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, Chest and many others. Although some of these same journals have also published research with negative results to homeopathy, there is simply much more research that shows a positive rather than negative effect.
Misstatements and misinformation on homeopathy are predictable because this system of medicine provides a viable and significant threat to economic interests in medicine, let alone to the very philosophy and worldview of biomedicine. It is therefore not surprising that the British Medical Association had the sheer audacity to refer to homeopathy as "witchcraft." It is quite predictable that when one goes on a witch hunt, one inevitable finds "witches," especially when there are certain benefits to demonizing a potential competitor (homeopathy plays a much larger and more competitive role in Europe than it does in the USA).
Skeptics of homeopathy also have long asserted that homeopathic medicines have "nothing" in them because they are diluted too much. However, new research conducted at the respected Indian Institutes of Technology has confirmed the presence of "nanoparticles" of the starting materials even at extremely high dilutions. Researchers have demonstrated by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction and chemical analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), the presence of physical entities in these extreme dilutions. (24) In the light of this research, it can now be asserted that anyone who says or suggests that there is "nothing" in homeopathic medicines is either simply uninformed or is not being honest.
Because the researchers received confirmation of the existence of nanoparticles at two different homeopathic high potencies (30C and 200C) and because they tested four different medicines (Zincum met./zinc; Aurum met. /gold; Stannum met./tin; and Cuprum met./copper), the researchers concluded that this study provides "concrete evidence."
Although skeptics of homeopathy may assume that homeopathic doses are still too small to have any biological action, such assumptions have also been proven wrong. The multi-disciplinary field of small dose effects is called "hormesis," and approximately 1,000 studies from a wide variety of scientific specialties have confirmed significant and sometimes substantial biological effects from extremely small doses of certain substances on certain biological systems.
A special issue of the peer-review journal, Human and Experimental Toxicology (July 2010), devoted itself to the interface between hormesis and homeopathy. (25) The articles in this issue verify the power of homeopathic doses of various substances.
In closing, it should be noted that skepticism of any subject is important to the evolution of science and medicine. However, as noted above by Nobelist Brian Josephson, many scientists have a "pathological disbelief" in certain subjects that ultimately create an unhealthy and unscientific attitude blocks real truth and real science. Skepticism is at its best when its advocates do not try to cut off research or close down conversation of a subject but instead explore possible new (or old) ways to understand and verify strange but compelling phenomena. We all have this challenge as we explore and evaluate the biological and clinical effects of homeopathic medicines.

(NaturalNews) Controversy over the safety of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has led to a resolution to end mandates requiring young girls to receive it. If passed by the Virginia state Senate, a bill recently passed by the Virginia House of Delegates will end mandates put into place in 2007 requiring 11- and 12-year-old girls to receive the HPV vaccine before entering sixth grade."We just want to make sure parents are evaluating the risks of what they're giving their daughters, and not a legislative body," said Del. Kathy J. Byron (R-Lynchburg), sponsor of the bill. "I don't think that we have the medical degree to make those decisions."
The House voted 61-33 to end the mandate, leaving only Washington D.C. with HPV vaccine mandates. Texas Gov. Rick Perry attempted to mandate the HPV vaccine for young girls in 2007 through an executive order, but lawmakers effectively blocked it.
Merck and Co.'s Gardasil and GlaxoSmithKline's Cervarix are the two HPV vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for preventing certain types of cervical cancer. But both vaccines have a long and dirty history of causing severe harm and death in girls that have received them.
Not only are the HPV vaccines a considerable threat to young girls' health, but a NaturalNews investigation revealed in 2007 that they do not even work. According to the evidence, the FDA knew since at least 2003 that HPV is not even linked to cervical cancer, but has continued to collude with drug companies to push the dangerous vaccine on the nation's youth.
There are also numerous cases of serious adverse events and deaths in girls that have received the vaccine, including 1,300 negative reactions to Cervarix in the U.K. (http://www.naturalnews.com/026293_H...), and numerous deaths both in the U.S. and abroad from both vaccines (http://www.naturalnews.com/029632_I...).

The BIG Lie – Wakefield Lancet Paper Alleged Fraud – Was Not Possible For Anyone To Commit - Health Headlines > - Progressive Radio Network
Central to the latest claims of journalist Brian Deer published in the British Medical Journal 6th January is the allegation that Dr Wakefield “altered numerous facts about the patients’ medical histories in order to support his claim to have identified a new syndrome.“
What Deer and the BMJ fail to point out is that not only did Wakefield not produce the results, which were the work of a team of 12 other specialists at the Royal Free Hospital, London, England but that:-
It was not possible for Wakefield or anyone else to falsify the prior clinical records of the children because no one at the Royal Free Hospital London had them nor is it normal practice for them to have had them. So there could be no fraud over “altering” those histories. It just was not possible.
Deer’s claims focus on what he claims to be discrepancies between:
- clinical medical histories taken at the Royal Free Hospital and
- the NHS/General Practitioner and other records of the child patients concerned taken over some years by various different family doctors and other child health professionals (eg. health visitors).
Deer and BMJ fail to make clear that
- as is common and normal practice those records were not provided to the Royal Free Team
- it is normal practice to take a medical history afresh – with only the referral letter from a patient’s family doctor setting out relevant prior clinical history.
- a child’s history is taken from accounts given by the parents
- where a history is taken from a parent it common for that parent to be unaware of what a GP may have entered [and probably more importantly, failed to enter] in prior NHS & in other child records and medical notes
- those records and notes [which can be created over years by numerous individuals] may not be reliable – hence the need to take a clinical history afresh
- the Royal Free diagnoses were made independently and afresh by specialists in their fields who would not rely on prior diagnoses of GPs or others – for obvious reasons
Further, the Royal Free clinical histories were taken not by Wakefield but by the then world leading gastroenterologist Professor John Walker Smith – who was also accused and found guilty by the General Medical Council and who is appealing to the English High Court.
Over and above all this, as no parent was called by the GMC prosecutor in the GMC hearings [bar the one who thought the evidence was given for the Defendants' benefit], there has been no opportunity for the parents to answer Mr Deer’s allegations or to challenge what he says nor has there been any proper full examination of these cherry-picked allegations, nor any opportunity for any claims now being made to be subject to cross-examination and independent investigation.
Additionally, one of the witnesses in the GMC proceedings against Dr Wakefield writing to the British Medical Journal confirmed the validity of the histopathology on which the paper was based and illustrated how Sunday Times journalist Brian Deer had misrepresented her evidence. Dr Susan E Davies, Consultant Histopathologist, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge stated in the British Medical Journal regarding a BMJ article by Brian Deer that:
There is some misrepresentation …. and lack of understanding of the process in studies involving histopathology.” and that there were significant findings “While a clinical gastroenterologist might consider caecal active inflammation with incipient crypt abscess formation to be normal in children (1), this is a significant finding to be recorded by pathologists“ “Caution in assessing histopathological opinions.” BMJ Rapid Responses 30 April 2010.
The other significant flaw in these lies is that if the paper were a fraud, how is it that the findings are now being accepted by the US Government and mainstream medicine.
Nowhere is this made clearer than in the US National Autism Association’s News Release 5th January exclusively to the UK media [full text & full references pasted below]:-
In summary what NAA state in their UK news release is that if the 1998 Lancet paper’s results were faked how is it that now Dr Wakefield’s work is being proven right:-
- US Government health officials have admitted vaccines [and not just the MMR vaccine] cause autistic conditions;
- the US Federal Court has ordered substantial compensation for children whose autistic conditions were caused by vaccines;
- papers published independently in mainstream leading medical journals confirm, just as Dr Wakefield found in 1998, that autistic children suffer serious bowel disease when their non autistic contemporaries do not.

NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – REBUTTAL
January 5th 2011 – Nixa, Missouri USA/ British Medical Journal claims to be published Friday 6th January 2011 that the suggestion of a possible link between vaccines, bowel conditions and autistic conditions in children was “an elaborate fraud” are directly contradicted by:-
[Full details to following in "Notes to Editors" below and .pdf attached]
- public statements by officials of US Federal Agencies made on US national news broadcast television that vaccines in general [ie not just the MMR vaccine] can cause autistic conditions;
- by a line of recent mainstream research papers showing that
- instead of being rare as claimed by government health officials autistic children are more likely to have mitochondrial dysfunctions which can lead to autistic conditions following vaccination
o and by the latest medical research [including Jan 2010 Pediatrics] and by a substantial body of prior peer reviewed papers showing that autistic children have substantially higher rates of bowel disease than other children
§ this published medical evidence confirms the early report in The Lancet medical journal in 1998 by a 13 strong team of medical experts from the internationally renowned Royal Free Hospital London.
- by three US Federal court decisions Poling, Zeller and Banks that vaccines have been proven to have caused autistic conditions:-
- [NB These are in addition to 1322 cases of serious brain injuries and medical conditions caused by vaccines which the US HRSA admits compensating. It is troubling that children susceptible to serious vaccine injury are not being screened out of the vaccine programmes and nothing is being done to save such children.]
Wendy Fournier of the US National Autism Association said:
“Despite mounting scientific evidence worldwide confirming the presence of serious bowel disease in some children diagnosed with autism and evidence of a causal association with vaccines, health officials and medical professionals internationally continue to spin, deny and suppress the evidence,” said NAA president Wendy Fournier. ”This latest attack by the UK medical profession through a journalist, who apparently has no source of income besides stories about Andrew Wakefield, is a continuing denial and failure to investigate either the contrary evidence that exists or the clinical histories of millions of children currently diagnosed with autism worldwide.”
One in 64 British children and one in 110 children in the US are now diagnosed with autism. ”Increasing rates of autism in children are out of control,” commented Ms. Fournier. ”Despite this pandemic, health officials and medical professionals continue to bury their heads in the sand while children and families suffer. The link between vaccines and the development of autism in susceptible individuals is not going away, because the children are not going away.”

Public Statements By US Agencies & Officials:-1) The current President of Merck’s Vaccines Division, Julie Gerberding confirmed vaccines can cause autism to CBS News when she was Director of the US $ 11 billion pa budget US Centers for Disease Control in relation to the case of Hannah Poling [a 9 year old US girl awarded US$ 20 million compensation in 2010 over her lifetime for autistic condition caused by 9 vaccines administered in one day] that:
“Now, we all know that vaccines can occasionally cause fevers in kids. So if a child was immunized, got a fever, had other complications from the vaccines. And if you’re predisposed with the mitochondrial disorder, it can certainly set off some damage. Some of the symptoms can be symptoms that have characteristics of autism. “

A new paper in Journal of American Medical Association confirms [contrary to US health officials claims] that mitochondrial dysfunction is not rare but common in children like 9 year old US girl Hannah Poling. The new paper confirms these children:
“were more likely to have mitochondrial dysfunction, mtDNA overreplication, and mtDNA deletions than typically developing children.“
Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Autism JAMA. 2010;304(21):2389-2396. doi: 10.1001/jama.2010.1706
That this can occur was also confirmed in a peer reviewed medical paper about Hannah Poling’s condition in the Journal of Child Neurology which states:-
Young children who have dysfunctional cellular energy metabolism therefore might be more prone to undergo autistic regression between 18 and 30 months of age if they also have infections or immunizations at the same time.
Developmental Regression and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in a Child With Autism (Journal of Journal of Child Neurology / Volume 21, Number 2, February 2006)
It was conceded by US officials that Hannah Poling had a mitochondrial dysfunction.
2) That Autistic conditions can result from vaccination was confirmed by the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News in relation to 1322 cases of vaccine injury compensation settled out of court by the US Government in unpublished settlements [see text of email exchanges between US HRSA and Attkisson - attached]:-
“We have compensated cases in which children exhibited an encephalopathy, or general brain disease. Encephalopathy may be accompanied by a medical progression of an array of symptoms including autistic behavior, autism, or seizures.”
Vaccine Case: An Exception Or A Precedent? – First Family To Have Autism-Related Case “Conceded” Is Just One Of Thousands – CBS News By Sharyl Attkisson WASHINGTON, March 6, 2008
It should be noted that the US Government admits to compensating 1322 children who developed very serious medical conditions following brain damage caused by vaccines.
3) Dr Bernadine Healy a former Director of the US National Institutes of Health, responsible for US$ 30.5 billion annual budget expenditure on health research stated to CBS news:-
“I think that the public health officials have been too quick to dismiss the hypothesis as irrational,” Healy said.
“But public health officials have been saying they know, they’ve been implying to the public there’s enough evidence and they know it’s not causal,” Attkisson said.
“I think you can’t say that,” Healy said. “You can’t say that.”
CBS News Exclusive: Leading Dr.: Vaccines-Autism Worth Study Former Head Of NIH Says Government Too Quick To Dismiss Possible Link – WASHINGTON, May 12, 2008
Dr Healy is is a Harvard and Johns Hopkins educated physician, cardiologist and former head of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She has been a professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins, professor and dean of the College of Medicine and Public Health at the Ohio State University, and served as president of the American Red Cross.
4) And the large increases in autistic conditions cannot be being caused by genetics was confirmed by Dr Francis Collins the current 16th Director of the US$ 30.5 billion annual budget US National Institutes of Health and a leading medical doctor and geneticist who led the Human Genome Project.
When Director of the US National Human Genome Research Institute Collins confirmed in public to the US House of Representatives in May 2006 that recent increases in chronic diseases like diabetes, childhood asthma, obesity and autism must have an environmental [external] cause and cannot be purely genetically [internally] caused conditions:
“Recent increases in chronic diseases like diabetes, childhood asthma, obesity or autism cannot be due to major shifts in the human gene pool as those changes take much more time to occur. They must be due to changes in the environment, including diet and physical activity, which may produce disease in genetically predisposed persons. Therefore, GEI will also invest in innovative new technologies/sensors to measure environmental toxins, dietary intake and physical activity, and using new tools of genomics, proteomics, and understanding metabolism rates to determine an individual’s biological response to those influences.“

US Federal Court Cases
The US Federal Court has found in three cases made public that vaccines can cause autistic conditions in children. Brief summaries appear below and .pdfs of the court decisions are attached.Summaries:-
1) Hannah Poling – The US Department of Health and Human Services settled the US Federal Court claims of this 9 year old girl in a sealed [secret] settlement in 2008. The DHHS experts conceded the case without a hearing claiming her mitochondrial dysfunction was “rare”. Recent research shows that mitochondrial dysfunction is not rare but common in autistic children compared to non autistic children.
Hannah Poling developed an autistic condition after being administered 9 vaccines in one day. She has recently been awarded US$ 20 million over her lifetime. Her father Jon is a medical doctor at Johns Hopkins University USA and her mother is a former nurse:-

2) Bailey Banks:-
Autistic conditions can result from acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) following MMR vaccination as held by the US Federal Court in the case of Bailey Banks. British Health Minister misled the English Parliament when she claimed in a written Parliamentary answer that Bailey Banks did not have an autistic condition.
Bailey Banks developed PDD-NOS – an autistic condition following from his MMR vaccination. Bailey Bank’s diagnosis follows US terminology under DSM IV for what is called in the rest of the world “Autistic Spectrum Disorder” under the International Classification of Disease. [Banks v. HHS (Case 02-0738V, 2007 U.S. Claims LEXIS 254, July 20, 2007)].
In his conclusion, US Federal Court Special Master Abell ruled that Petitioners had proven that the MMR had directly caused a brain inflammation illness called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) which, in turn, had caused the autism spectrum disorder PDD-NOS in the child:
The Court found that Bailey’s ADEM was both caused-in-fact and proximately caused by his vaccination. It is well-understood that the vaccination at issue can cause ADEM, and the Court found, based upon a full reading and hearing of the pertinent facts in this case, that it did actually cause the ADEM. Furthermore, Bailey’s ADEM was severe enough to cause lasting, residual damage, and retarded his developmental progress, which fits under the generalized heading of Pervasive Developmental Delay, or PDD [ED NOTE: an autism spectrum disorder]. The Court found that Bailey would not have suffered this delay but for the administration of the MMR vaccine, and that this chain of causation was… a proximate sequence of cause and effect leading inexorably from vaccination to Pervasive Developmental Delay.
[Banks v. HHS (Case 02-0738V, 2007 U.S. Claims LEXIS 254, July 20, 2007)].
But here is what British Health Minister Dawn Primarolo stated in the English Parliament:-
Ms Primarolo claimed Bailey Banks whose autistic condition was caused by vaccines and won his case in the US Federal Court on that basis was not diagnosed with autism. Minister Primarolo is also reported to have been sending out the same information in written replies to enquiries from British MPs made on behalf of constituents.
The written answer: MMR Vaccine appears in Hansard, the official record of proceedings in the English Parliament of 18 Mar 2009 : Column 1229W. The full text of the exchange from Hansard:
MMR Vaccine
Mark Pritchard: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make an assessment of the implications of the decision in the US case of Bailey Banks v. The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services for his Department’s policy on the MMR vaccine. [263933]
Dawn Primarolo: In 2007 the United States Court of Federal Claims made a ruling in favour of compensation to the father of Bailey Banks for his non-autistic developmental delay as a result of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) following receipt of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. ADEM is an extremely rare condition that has been reported after rabies, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, smallpox, MMR, Japanese B encephalitis, pertussis, influenza and hepatitis B vaccines. The Bailey Banks case has no implications for MMR vaccine policy.
3) Ben Zeller
In the US Federal Court case of Ben Zeller, this boy was proven to have suffered a developmental delay caused by vaccines the judgement records that the defendant US Department of Health and Human Services had no alternative explanation beyond:-

Cells’ ‘power plants’ damaged in some autistic kids – By Frederik Joelving NEW YORK | Tue Nov 30, 2010 5:15pm EST
B – Journal of Neuroinflammation. 2010 Nov 17;7:80. – Mitochondrial DNA and anti-mitochondrial antibodies in serum of autistic children.
Abstract
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by difficulties in communication, cognitive and learning deficits, as well as stereotypic behaviors. For the majority of cases there are no reliable biomarkers or distinct pathogenesis. However, increasing evidence indicates ASD may be associated with some immune dysregulation, and may have a neuroimmune component. We recently showed that the peptide neurotensin (NT) is increased in autistic children. We now show that NT induces release of extracellular mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that could act as “autoimmune” trigger. We further show that serum from young autistic patients contains mtDNA (n = 20; cytochrome B, p = 0.0002 and 7S, p = 0.006), and anti-mitochondrial antibody Type 2 (n = 14; p = 0.001) as compared to normally developing, unrelated controls (n = 12). Extracellular blood mtDNA and other components may characterize an autistic endophenotype and may contribute to its pathogenesis by activating autoimmune responses.

Gastrointestinal disorders andassociated symptoms are commonly reported in individuals withASDs, but key issues such as the prevalence and best treatmentof these conditions are incompletely understood. A central difficultyin recognizing and characterizing gastrointestinal dysfunctionwith ASDs is the communication difficulties experienced by manyaffected individuals. A multidisciplinary panel reviewed themedical literature with the aim of generating evidence-basedrecommendations for diagnostic evaluation and management ofgastrointestinal problems in this patient population. “

On the basis of these functions, we hypothesized that association of the autism spectrum disorder-associated MET promoter variant may be enriched in a subset of individuals with co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and gastrointestinal conditions.”
“RESULTS: In the entire 214-family sample, the MET rs1858830 C allele was associated with both autism spectrum disorder and gastrointestinal conditions. “

“These biochemical changes are consistent with some of the known abnormalities of gut microbiota found in autistic individuals and the associated gastrointestinal dysfunction and may be of value in monitoring the success of therapeutic interventions.”
It was not possible for Wakefield or anyone else to falsify the prior clinical records of the children because no one at the Royal Free Hospital London had them nor is it normal practice for them to have had them. So there could be no fraud over “altering” those histories. It just was not possible.

The Face of a Poisoned Man | Dr. Mark's Blog
Findings published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) examine the influence of prenatal organophosphate exposure on the later development of attention problems. The researchers found that prenatal levels of organophosphate metabolites were significantly linked to attention problems at age five, with the effects apparently stronger among boys. The organophosphate family of chemicals damages the nervous system (which includes the brain), so scientists are particularly concerned about children’s exposure because their bodies are still developing. Chlorpyrifos is one of the many insecticides in this chemical family.

(NaturalNews) In light of new evidence that has emerged clearing Dr Wakefield of the allegations that he fabricated study data involving MMR vaccines and symptoms of autism, Dr Wakefield is now publicly demanding a retraction from the British Medical Journal and author Brian Deer. Documents just made public reveal that another medical research team which included a senior pathologist independently documented evidence of a possible MMR vaccine - autism link 14 months before Dr Wakefield's paper first appears in The Lancet -- based on several of the same children appearing in Dr Wakefield's study. (http://www.naturalnews.com/031116_D...)These documents include detailed clinical notes describing the pathology in seven children following MMR vaccination. These notes include references to "autism" and chronic gastrointestinal inflammation, among others.
This evidence, which was just made public, refutes the accusations of fraud leveled against Dr Andrew Wakefield by the British Medical Journal and reporter Brian Deer. This evidence was made available to the BMJ before the publication of their accusations, but they chose to ignore it. Dr Wakefield, in essence, has been falsely accused by the BMJ in what is now being widely recognized as a political witch hunt against the most visible researcher questioning the safety of MMR vaccines.
BMJ caught in highly politicized scientific fraud
The BMJ, in essence, has been caught pulling off what may be the largest scientific fraud ever perpetrated by any medical journal in the history of the world. It grossly misrepresented the facts in falsely accusing Dr Wakefield of fabricating the clinical trial data that led to his landmark study being published in The Lancet in 1998. The innocence of Dr Wakefield has now been established by these newly-released documents. The British Medical Journal also failed to disclose that its own finances are largely funded by vaccine manufacturers who fill the journal with paid advertising, and that such financial ties may have influenced the journal's decision to attempt to destroy the reputation of a researcher whose findings threatened the profits of its top sponsors. If you follow the money in this story, in other words, it leads right to the editors of BMJ, whose salaries are effectively financed by vaccine manufacturers. This all-important conflict of interest is almost never discussed in the mainstream media, by the way.
In light of the evidence that has now been made public, clearing Dr Andrew Wakefield of any wrongdoing, Dr Wakefield is publicly demanding that the BMJ issue a full retraction of its Brian Deer article accusing Dr Wakefield of fabricating the data. His statement is entitled, "Uncovered Documents Prove There Was No Fraud in Lancet Case Series" and is included here in its entirety:
STATEMENT BY DR. ANDREW WAKEFIELD
Uncovered Documents Prove There Was No Fraud in Lancet Case SeriesBritish Medical Journal and Sunday Times author Brian Deer misrepresent facts in latest articles wrongly accusing Dr. Wakefield of altering clinical histories of autistic children
In a series of articles published in the UK Sunday Times and the British Medical Journal (BMJ), written by freelance journalist Brian Deer and BMJ editor Dr. Fiona Godlee (1), I am accused of altering the clinical histories and test results in autistic children in order to manufacture a novel disease – a disease described in The Lancet in 1998 that Brian Deer claims does not exist. I have documents that confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that I did not falsify this data; that the finding of bowel disease in these children is real; and that these findings were accurately reported in The Lancet in 1998.
The first document (2) describes 7 of The Lancet children and was written by Professor John Walker-Smith in December 1996, 14 months before The Lancet paper was published. Professor Walker-Smith prepared this document in an exercise that, in his words, “was totally unrelated to Andy Wakefield” (3). The document was a report prepared for a scientific meeting, and was based upon Professor Walker-Smith’s own independent assessment of the children’s condition.
He was assisted by a senior pathologist and an expert in bowel disease, Dr. Dhillon, who reported on the microscopic findings in the children’s intestinal tissues. This independent analysis was conducted to a high level of scientific rigor, and are the precise findings reported in The Lancet.
These documents, including Professor Walker-Smith’s report; the transcript of his sworn testimony before the UK medical regulator (2), the General Medical Council (GMC), and the relevant sections of the statement of Dr. Dhillon to the GMC3; were available to Deer and the editors of the BMJ well in advance of their recent publication. (4) They knew, or should have known, that their allegations against me were false. It is clear that the BMJ acted recklessly by failing to check these facts adequately before making their false allegations.
On the basis of this evidence, the British Medical Journal must retract these articles, or face the consequences.

Wonderful Waldorf « The Parenting Passageway
People who know my husband and I in “real life” were somewhat surprised to hear we had chosen a Waldorf-inspired path for the home education of our two children. Most people who know a little about Waldorf say, “Isn’t that the method where children do not learn to read until they are nine?” Other parents we knew who had actually visited a Waldorf school usually only visited a Waldorf Kindergarten, and the “pink bubble” of the Kindergarten did not impress them as setting the stage for an academically rigorous education. These are a few of the common but pervasive myths surrounding Waldorf education that I would like to bust today in this post.
I would like to list for you all the 10 most wonderful things I have found about Waldorf education, why I consider it the best way to educate a child, and why you truly should consider it for your own family.
1. No other curriculum I have found takes on the task of educating the entire child – body, mind, soul and spirit – and also takes into account what the adult who went through this kind of educational process will be like as a result. In Waldorf Education, what kind of adult the child will be in thirty or forty years really matters. The health of the child and the future adult the child will become is of utmost importance.
2. Waldorf education respects the stages of childhood development. This is why formal academics are delayed until the first grade, why a nine year old in the third grade studies house building and farming, why a fifth grader studies the Greeks and Ancient History. I appreciate the fact that nothing is random within the curriculum, and that the curriculum is built upon what will feed the child’s soul at each and every age.
3. I am glad to see a high emphasis placed upon the arts and teaching through the arts throughout the grades. This resonates within me that we as human beings should be close to the wonderful and beautiful things that we can create – art, music, handwork.
4. Waldorf is one of the only methods I know that looks at what Steiner termed “soul economy.” Steiner’s thought was this, as written in the lecture “The Waldorf School“ in the lectures compiled in Soul Economy: “The aim of Waldorf education is to arrange all of the teaching so that in the shortest possible time the maximum amount of material can be presented to students by the simplest means possible.” He goes on to say: “This helps children retain an overall view of their subjects – not so much intellectually, but very much in their feeling life.” Some may read this last statement as evidence that Steiner did not mean for Waldorf education to be academically rigorous. I view this as evidence that Waldorf education is more than just the rampant “Factoid-ization” that is occurring within our educational system today and causing the United States to be behind in nearly all educational standards by the time our children graduate from high school. Memorizing facts does not equate to knowledge and the ability to problem –solve. Waldorf education does require a lot of memorization – verses, songs, rhymes, multiplication tables, addition tables, scientific facts – but it also looks at the memorization of these facts within a bigger picture of understanding and knowledge.
5. The beauty of music resonates throughout the kindergarten years with the pentatonic scales and rich singing through the use of a blowing instrument in the early grades leading up to use of a stringed instrument in the third grade and going through a History of Music in high school. Music has important ties to math and should hold a high place within educational standards.
6. The way Waldorf education approaches reading makes perfect sense to me. Oral storytelling, verses and singing within the Kindergarten years provide that deep, rich basis for language. Waiting until a child is likely to have the attention, handwriting skills and visual tracking abilities to successfully read also makes perfect sense. In Waldorf schools, children learn to read by reading what they themselves have written and drawn in a main lesson book. Waldorf education traces the letters through how people long ago may have started to devise symbols for things and how that translates into the alphabet. The pictures of stories of the letters really stick in the children’s minds, as opposed to them just trying to remember which way a “g” goes and how is that different than a “j”?
There probably are always children within a Waldorf Kindergarten who have taught themselves to read, and that is fine and much different than having phonics lessons shoved down your child’s throat. Many of the children who have taught themselves to read literally go from reading nothing to being able to read whatever they want. It is innate and inborn, and guess what? They still enjoy hearing the stories of the letters in first grade just as much as the other children! Waldorf education focuses on not just the academic education needed for life, but the stories that build a child’s soul for where they are. First Grade is still just the bridge between Kindergarten and the more rigorous work to come.
7. Waldorf’s approach to science focuses on moving from whole to parts and involves more than giving a child a hypothesis to prove with an experiment. For more information regarding the Gothean approach to science that Waldorf utilizes, please see the following website: www.natureinstitute.org
8. Throughout all of the school years, Waldorf education places utmost importance upon the child developing into a moral human. In this day and age, how can anything be more important than that? This is to me what schools try to approach through “character development” classes but far misses the mark compared to the beauty and morality that rings throughout all of Waldorf education in EVERY subject – including math and science!
9. Waldorf education takes the tiny, delicate wings of a child’s imagination and makes them fly and soar like an eagle. The world our children will inherit will be even more fast-paced than today most likely. The adults who will succeed in this world will be the ones who will be imaginative, creative, out-of the box problem solvers. Will your child be one of those adults?
10. Waldorf education, through the use of its shared values, celebration of festivals and rites of passage within the curriculum, promotes a wonderful and close knit community that families are glad and proud to be a part of!

Welcome to The Parenting Passageway
A passageway, as one would guess, is a conduit to the next thing – a way that allows movement from one place, condition or stage to the other. This blog is entitled “The Parenting Passageway” as it is intended to help support and encourage parents as they journey from being a single individual and/or the duality of being a couple to being an awakened parent and unified family. The ideas here are not completely new, but hopefully will still provide you, the reader, with some “a-ha” moments of clarity to ponder in your parenting journey . Whether you agree or disagree with what I have to say…. Thanks for reading and welcome again to this site!Categories

The most beautiful aspect of a self-initiated education is that the child is able to unfold their body, mind, soul and spirit in a way that does not produce shocks or traumas of the nervous system. It allows the child to naturally grow into being sovereign, autonomous, resourceful problem solvers. This is a lovely example of how natural health can wholly permeate healthy education.

Great list!
I agree, a good list which also matches much of my reasons for using a Steiner/Waldorf-inspired approach.
It’s a choice that surprises quite a few people who know me too, especially those who have known me for some time, with my myriad of hair colours, dh’s love of tatts and our mutual love of punk and psychobilly. However, I recognise the value of the thinking behind Steiner pedagogy and know that it is *right* for my children
I love to read your blog! You are such a blessing to the Wadorf community!
Much love and respect.

[...] If you are Waldorf homeschooling, I encourage you to actually read some Steiner. Kingdom of Childhood is a good place to start, very accessible. Here it is for free: http://steinerbooks.org/research/archive/kingdom_of_childhood/kingdom_of_childhood.pdf  You don’t have to agree with Steiner’s personal worldview to use Waldorf Education; you can bring Waldorf elements to your homeschool no matter what methods you use. (Here is a post on infusing Waldorf methods into Christian homeschooling: http://theparentingpassageway.com/2010/05/20/infusing-waldorf-elements-into-your-christian-homeschool/) You take what resonates with you and leave the rest behind, but I think Steiner fleshes out a curriculum so in synch with the developmental stages of the child people are foolhardy to ignore this system of education.
